Seminar Series - Spring 2012
February 15, 3-4:30pm: Eric Gold
Personalized Behavioral Research
Abstract:
The use of Amazon Mechanical Turk and other web-based tools has resulted in empirical behavioral research that is fast, easy and inexpensive. This not only has implications for how much research can be done, but also opens up the possibility that behavioral research might be applied in ways not previously feasible. This talk proposes that, because collecting data is so easy, empirical research can be customized and applied to the idiosyncratic questions, issues and decisions of just one person - the psychodynamic analog to personalized medicine. Two examples of personalized research questions with tailored experimental designs are given: one that might be investigated by a psychotherapist on behalf of a client and one that might be investigated directly by an individual. This work is in the earliest stages of development.
